A Litany of Faux News' Lies About Climate Change

1. "Global warming 'doesn't exist.'"
2. "2009 was "the coldest year on record."
3. "Nearly all of the [Arctic] ice has returned."
4. "How can there be global warming if it's snowing and it's bitterly cold?"
5. "The Earth is actually cooling now."
6. "Hacked emails prove scientists are 'doctoring' data to exaggerate global warming."
7. "El Nino is the cause of warming of the past 30 years."
8. "Climate science warned of global cooling in the 1970s."
9. "NASA acknowledges solar cycle, not man, responsible for global warming."
10. "Phil Jones told BBC that 'the Middle Ages were warmer than the climate now.'"

Exactly how each of these claims fails the smell test is explained in the accompanying article. This is classic Faux News in a nutshell: hyperbole, apocalypticism, outright lies, far-right spin and pandering to our ignorance and prejudices.

But I Hate The Guy, So It MUST Be True...

A coworker last night complained to me about President Obama "heading off on another vacation." This seems to be a popular meme lately.

For the record (courtesy of Mark Knoller):

This is Mr. Obama's 9th vacation since taking office. As of today, he has spent all or part of 38 days on "vacation" away from the White House. He has also made 14 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 32 days. It brings his total time away to all or part of 70 days.

As of this point in his 1st term, Mr. Bush had made 14 visits to his Texas ranch spanning all or part of 102 days. He also made 40 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 123 days. His "vacation" total at this point in his presidency was all or part of 225 days away.

Hmmm. 70 versus 225. Move along to a more substantive criticism.
