What Has Happened to the Iowa Of My Youth?

This is unbelievable.

I am dumbstruck by these morons' lies and stupidity and foaming anger, by their desire to revise history and their militant ignorance of science; but they keep topping themselves (again, think Overton Window). And these aren't even the Tea-Baggers! This is an infestation of the Republican Party itself.

Just think of what would happen to this country with these folks in power.

I didn't realize you were from Iowa (or I forgot). Where from? I was born in Hamburg, mostly grew up in Red Oak, and graduated from ISU in Ames. Wife born in Fort Dodge, mostly raised in Osceola.

Iowa's kinda funny. It's got plenty of pockets of Dems, but also plenty of pockets of nutjobs ... hence your story.

Originally born in Manchester, up in the Northeast (right next to Delhi where the dam burst recently). Moved to MN when I was 7.

I remember the Iowa of my youth as being a progressive place where kids went to college and their industrious, blue-collar parents worked hard to make their kids' lives better than their own had been. It was a forward-looking place, and not the cesspool of anti-rational nutjobs the Rotten Old Part would have us believe.
