Electron Malaise

My MacBook is on the fritz and has been hospitalized. Thank god my old G4 Powerbook--now four years old--is still functioning.

It turns out that the whining, motorized complaint that began several months back--and had lately become nearly continuous--was my optical drive calling it a day. And when everything froze last week in KY it was the hard drive was found to be responsible. Cue the repair shop, who will take 1/3 the cost of a new computer to resuscitate it.

So I'm laying low for a few days. I'm told that it's back up and walking around now down at the Louisville Apple Store, so we'll reacquaint in a day or two.

Just in case anyone (other than Jeffy, who was the first call when trouble arose) was wondering.

When in doubt, throw it out. That's my philosophy. In this way I rid myself of all manner of dysfunctional things: socks with holes, scratched CDs, boyfriends with restless leg syndrome, etc.

Believe me, I contemplated throwing it off for a new one; but given that the new ones don't do anything my current one does (except store more music files--which is the chief thing I ask of the machine...), I just couldn't stomach another $1,100.

Now if only I could convince myself that the motorized whine was restless drive syndrome...

Hi Wunelle,

I was wondering why you had been so quiet in the past several days! You're like, the only person I know who reads my blog ;) so I missed ya. Hope your mac is up and blogging soon.
