WTF??

I sometimes feel like I could start a blog where every post would be titled WTF?, and I've resisted it many times here on Journal Wunelle, but the time has come. I couldn't hold back any longer.

Check out this article in the Washington Post:

U.S. Seeks Silence on CIA Prisons

I don't think that I have ever heard of anything more ridiculous coming from our supposedly competent government officials. To consider that one's knowledge of our detention facilities and methods is classified information is beyond belief. I am not one to think that we need to get too carried away worrying about more than the most basic human rights for those who have fought against us. But to say that they have observed classified activities and therefore no one, not even their lawyers can talk to them about it is just crazy. What are we going to do with them when we are done with them? We can't send them home if their heads are full of the most highly classified info. Are we now going to execute every POW we capture because of what they saw us do to them? It does simplify all of those messy details around justifying someone's detainment - just show them some classified info, and declare them to be sensitive state secrets that must be locked up for security.

I realize that many groups will not treat our own soldiers humanely when captured, but we still need to set an example for the world, and this is not the one we want to set. We've already had our officials who are determining our detention policies state that we would not tolerate other nations doing the same to our soldiers, and this goes way beyond that.

You've GOT to be kidding.

It's like we're living under Stalin, where all information is hugely controlled and spun, yet we are told the press is free. It's all lies, spin and bullshit. I'm more and more convinced that this administration will go down in history as one of the most corrupt, anti-American governments in our history.

Here's hoping tomorrow we put an end to this regime's ability to wage war on its own country.

Every day when I log on, I go immediately to washingtonpost.com. Every day, I expect to be stunned and horrified. But at this point, pretty much the only headline that could do the stunning is BUSH BOMBS CANADA.

The judge on the case, Reggie Walton, is very competent and just. He's the judge on Scooter Libby's case, so we've seen some of his filings and he is not on the "dark side" with Cheney and friends. I wish the article said when we could expect a decision, but presumably it will be big news. I feel confident that the government will lose this round.
