A Bit of a Hiatus

Sorry things have been quieter than usual around here--thankfully, there's always the Great and Powerful Jeffy to supply the occasional item or two to contemplate.

My mother had a massive stroke a couple weeks ago, and that rather takes up all our spare time. I won't dwell on these personal matters except to say that she got hit pretty hard and recovery is still up in the air.

What will probably happen, though, is that these big, life-changing occurrences inevitably set my mind off on a series of tangents, and this will no doubt make its way into blog content. So at least you'll have some idea where a certain tone or thrust of a series of posts comes from.

I came to see if there's any news.

You and yours are in my thoughts.

Thanks both of you. No developments. She's out of ICU now for over a week, but still being pretty closely monitored. Not everything is entirely stable, and there are huge deficits of mental functioning that simply aren't coming back; it remains to see what we'll have over time. I think the worst danger is past, but things are still pretty precarious and, I'm afraid, are likely to remain so.

Esbee, I hope you're holding up. I think about you guys every day, our being in somewhat similar circumstances.

We inter my father's remains next Tuesday. I'm still on autopilot until then, I think.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom - that's awful. If you ever need to vent, blogging is a wonderful outlet... Take care - I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.

wunelle, my thoughts are still with you. Please update us as you can or want.

A strong (but completely not stalkerish) hug,
Esbee

Thanks all.

I was home in WI for the weekend, but am back at bedside vigil now. There are little bits of progress, and she continues to be in good spirits. This is the more important as therapy takes a lot out of one and a good attitude is important. But I'm still quite sure that she doesn't grasp the gravity of the situation, and maybe that spares her from what might otherwise be shocking and extraordinarily depressing.

We're hoping for the best from the therapy, though, and this next month will tell us a lot.

Thanks for the good vibe, my friends.

Wow! I've been out of touch for awhile. Sorry to hear about your mom. I'll be back in a few days and I'll give you a call, then.
