Still, I might assert that the V-Rod is advanced for H-D, but doesn't stretch any envelopes outside the company. But you're right that a much more advanced engine (designed wth help from Porsche, no less!) HAS sprung from the HD loins, and that the V-Rod is a step toward the sporting motorcycling mainstream (following in the footsteps of the Yamaha V-Max).

I would certainly have considered one if there had been no Buell, but I think the chassis stuff he's done is more important overall than the much better motor in the (to me) still-overweight V-Rod. JMO.

Thanks for the comment! :-)wstachourhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12447198404608861357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15935045.post-1158332866856526852006-09-15T10:07:00.000-05:002006-09-15T10:07:00.000-05:00Good posts on several subjects. I found you by your comment on the "Postards From Somewhere site."
I'm not a motorcycle guy, so have no real experience on them (other than nearly "buying the farm" once on a Triumph Bonneville.)
I am sure H-D will disagree with your statement that "...Harley has for years resisted developing more technology advanced machines...".
The V-Rod received considerable publicity by H-D and magazines' reviewers based on the advanced technology.
The V-Rod is certainly a big step away from the "hog" mentality, and seems to me that it has moved closer to the Buell Sportster concept.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15935045.post-1158298708452583532006-09-15T00:38:00.000-05:002006-09-15T00:38:00.000-05:00Sounds like a pretty awesome machine. It will be interesting to hear how it compares to the BMW.

It does seem a bit disappointing that in an effort to build an entirely 'American' bike Buell has stuck with the HD engines. I would assume that there are other options out there, and some have got to be more advanced and generally better. It just seems to be a shame to go to all the effort to create a bike that is re-thought and redesigned in nearly every way, and then have to toss in an engine whose primary virtue is that it is made nearby.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13860812772132171202noreply@blogger.com
